How many days it will take to learn Docker? How long will it take to build your custom build? Will you have a fully functioning application on top of your new toolbox or will you have a lot of work to do before you get there? While there's a lot of ways to answer these questions the answers I have found for myself are, unfortunately, not always the same. But, what's one thing that everyone can and should have? Experience! And this post will teach you how to build your first customized, Dockerized hello world example in less than 20 minutes.

Usually to learn the basics of Docker and experiment with the examples will take a week to 10 days. More advanced topics will take a little bit of more time. You have to experiment with the detailed concepts of Docker and gradually learn it.

Here's what you'll need

A Windows 10 operating system or Ubunut can be used. If you are using Windows 10 then install Ubuntu in Oracle VM. The Ubuntu VM is the preferred way to learn Docker by own.

You could also use Docker CE installed on virtual hardware if you really needed to, but I've decided against that for the purposes of this tutorial because it's much more confusing than a native Docker image.

One of the awesome things about getting started with a Docker based application is the ability to easily spin up instances of a specific Docker container type by simply creating a new container image.
