Ruled by the Ottoman Empire for centuries, Turkey is a Eurasian country located in Asia with a small percentage of its land in Europe. It is predominantly an Islamic country. Turkey is a member of number of organisations of the west like the G-20 economies and it has strong industrial relations with the Middle East, which has helped it grow economically and have an influence in both the continents of Asia and Europe.

Turkey is located at the geographical coordinates of 39 North and 35 East. It is spread across an area of 783,562 square kilometres making it the 37th largest country in the world after Pakistan. The population of 73,722,988 makes it the 18th most populous nation in the world followed by Thailand. Turkey shares its boundaries with Syria and Iraq in the southeast, Iran and Azerbaijan in the east, Georgia in the northeast, Greece in the west and Bulgaria in the northwest.

Geographically Turkey is Transcontinental with 97% of the country located in Asia and 3% in Europe. It is surrounded by various water bodies like Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus in the south, black Sea in the north and Aegean Sea in the west. The most elevated peak in the country is Mount Ararat at a height of 5166 metres. The climatic conditions in the country vary as we move from the coastal area of the Mediterranean Sea to the Costal area of the Black Sea.
