One of the world's youngest and smallest countries, Palau is archipelago of islands located on the Pacific Ocean. This archipelago is also known as the Black Islands. Palau was conquered by United States in 1944 during the Second World War and remained in its Trusteeship for five decades. In 1994, Palau was freed from the trusteeship of United States and achieved independence after many referendums and compacts.

Palau is located at the geographical coordinates of 7.5° North and 134.5° East and spanned across an area of 459 square kilometres. It is one of the least populous countries in the world with a population of 20,790 according to 2010 census. Palau shares its neighbourhood with Philippines to the east and Tokyo to the south.

The islands of Palau where one can find majority of the population are Peleliu, Babeldaob, Koror, and Angaur. The elevated Rock Islands have no population. The state of Kayangel lies in the southernmost part of the country and power in this island is generated from solar panels and generators.

Palau has a tropical type of climate with little variation in temperature of different seasons. The average annual temperature hovers around 29° C.

Agriculture and fishing are the mainstays of the economy of Palau. Apart from that, tourism generates maximum revenues for the country. As a sporting culture, baseball is the most popular sport among the inhabitants of the country by far.
