Most of the people in the fleet business have 50 vehicles or more and some time the number is huge but to maintain all these vehicle is not a kid?s play. It has to be done systematically and by professional.

To increase the benefit all the operational cost must be cut short as much as possible than fuel usage should be checked and losses should be minimized. Here the role of a fleet manager is like a hero. He is the driving force and supervising eye behind all the operations.

Just to be clear all the work done by manger falls under fleet management. Now, a manager has to maintain a detailed report of every day work: from the one that has been completed to the one that are pending and to the work that has to be done today or is in progress. Driver?s profile, vehicle information, fleet route or course and all the paperwork must be with him for any time reference. This all work cannot be done without the aid of tracking technologies and softwares like GPS (Global Positioning System) and GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System). This tracking technology helps him to keep a close eye on the ongoing job and the softwares aids him to maintain all the data is systematic way for future reference.

Fleet management also includes the knowing of the course or root that has been taken by the fleet and guiding them to the shortest and best way to reach the destination. This helps in two ways:

  • It saves fuel.

  • It saves time and the delivery is made on or before time and hence the precious client is also delighted by the work.

  • Fleet management also involves maintenance of vehicles as all the business rely on their functioning. A break down at the wrong time can send the whole operation or job in jeopardy. Vehicles need regular and timely service to increase their work life. But to know when is the right time of servicing of vehicle any time before and after can be equally dangerous.

    All these facts related to Fleet Management must be kept in mind and should be given importance by the manger and owner of the fleet to sustain in the cutthroat competition.
