Moth Ki Masjid in Delhi

The Moth Ki Masjid is a mosque that has been standing in Delhi for more than five hundred years. This large mosque features an interesting story to its name and an interesting design that makes it very different from other mosques in Delhi and other parts of India.

The Moth Ki Masjid was built in 1505 by Sikander Lodi. The name that is used here means "Lentil Mosque." This is believed to have come from how Lodi had given out a grain of lentil to a minister that he followed. This is specifically a moth seed, a type of lentil seed that is commonly used in Delhi and other parts of India. The minister then planted that grain and it eventually multiplied to the point where the construction of this mosque could be financially supported.ADS_TO_REPLACE_1

There is also the belief that the seed that was used should be handled with God in mind. Therefore, the seed would result in the construction of this beautiful mosque.

The mosque is designed with an Indo-Islamic architecture style in mind. It features a square shape and a courtyard that is protected from outside areas through the use of a large series of walls.

There are a few chhatris around the ends of the Moth Ki Masjid. These small domes are on towers that are located around some of the gates in the mosque. This is a notable point in the architectural design of the mosque because it helped to influence the construction styles of different kinds of buildings like this in Delhi.ADS_TO_REPLACE_2

A dome can be seen in the central part of the mosque. This dome is not in a straight circle but is still round in size.

The materials that were used in the construction of the Moth Ki Masjid were red sandstone pieces. This is a standard that was used throughout much of Delhi for other important religious buildings in the Islamic faith.

The main feature about construction of the Delhi Moth Ki Masjid is that it is very different in terms of how it is designed. One big point about this mosque is that it does not contain any minarets like other mosques. It does not have an elaborate series of decorations or etchings like other mosques either. This appears to be an area that was built with the intention of being a simple place to worship in.ADS_TO_REPLACE_3

Also, the mosque is not as large as some other similar mosques. The Moth Ki Masjid features a length of nearly forty meters. This length is consistent around the many different walls in the area.

The simple design pattern used here does not mean that the Moth Ki Masjid will have no impressive visual appeals to it. The dome is just a small part of what makes this unique mosque memorable. One other part of the mosque is the latticework featured around the windows. This is very attractive and appealing.

This mosque is located in the southern area of Delhi. It is in a part of the South Extension and Uday Park. This mosque is even open during all days of the year and will be open during daylight hours. However, this mosque is still functioning for many important Islamic holidays. Therefore, this place will become crowded with many worshipers during certain Islamic holidays.ADS_TO_REPLACE_4

This mosque is an attractive place that is simple yet beautiful and small yet important. The Moth Ki Masjid in Delhi features a great design and a number of unique accents. This is a notable mosque that still works to this day for all sorts of visitors and people who come here to worship.
