Prerequisites or hardware system requirements for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Now we will look into the minimal system requirements for running Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop operating system on the bare metal hardware. If you have a desktop (may be old) and your want to run the Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop operating system then you should have at least following configuration in your system:
- At least 2 GHz dual-core processor
- Minimum 4GB of RAM
- Hard disk requirement is minimal 25GB
- USB port
- At least a 4GB USB drive for making the bootable disk for installation from USB
System requirement for running Virtualized Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop Edition
The Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Desktop operating system can also be run as a Virtualized container inside other operating systems including Windows 7/10/11, Ubuntu, Other Linux, MacOSX etc. In such cases following system requirements are suggested:
- 2 GHz single core processor - But more processor are good for the speed and fast performance
- 2 GiB RAM - In the VM try to give 4GB or more RAM
- 25 GB of hard drive space - Can be increased more as per your requirements
Above requirement is the minimal requirement for running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Desktop in a Virtualized environment, but you can increase the resources as per your business requirements. For example if you are planning to run the Document editing software then you should increase the RAM and CPU.
In the VM based installation it is advisable to provide dedicated 126MB of video memory to the VM so that it can be used as video memory. If you have more memory you can give more memory to the VM as dedicated video memory. The video memory will increase the performance of your virtual Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Desktop.
System requirements for running Ubuntu 22.04 Server Edition
In case servers we are not running the Desktop and in such cases less resources are required. But in servers we usually run the back-end applications and these applications require more resources due to various data processing requirements. So, the actual configuration you need depends on the type of applications you are running on the server.
Here is the official requirements of running Ubuntu 22.04 Server Edition:
- 1 GHz CPU
- 1 GiB RAM (system memory)
- 2.5 GB hard drive
Above are the minimal requirements for running the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server operating system, but you should increase the server resource to meet your data processing requirements.
