Meeting on the net, or whatever it is called, has been available for much longer than 10 years but yet is not in very common use even though it has unquestionable and very concrete advantages. In my job as a consultant I have trained my clients: “how to hold a successive and effective webmeeting” and found that most difficult part is not to learn to use the conference program (although many of them have far too many useless options) but to change the way of holding the meeting. The patterns and behaviour learned in maybe hundreds or thousands of physical meetings hold very, very deep in our behaviour. And to try to apply this behaviour in a webmeeting results in failure or fiasco with comments: “It is a very poor and useless solution …. “ One of the most important reasons for the quite limited use of webconference is, I think, just this problem of changing the familiar and safe meeting-behaviour.
With my two colleagues, them living in two different towns in Finland and me living in Sweden, we hold 2 – 6 webmeentings every month using WebHuddle www.webhuddle.com (it´s free) for screen sharing and Skype for audio. After having tested almost 10 different solutions we have found it the best. Our meetings could also be called “a telephone conference where I show you some pictures and sketches and whatever needs to be concretised”. Screen sharing is, of course, the point in webmeeting.
