The Project Quality Management Plan is an essential part of project management, which is required for the effective management of project quality from the initial stage of project planning to the final delivery. There are three steps involved in a project quality management: Quality Planning, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

An effective project quality management defines project's quality policies, procedures, criteria for and areas of application, and roles, responsibilities and authorities.

The Project Quality Management Plan is created during the project-planning phase of the project management and is important for the project manager, project team, project sponsor and any senior executive who are involved in the project.

Quality Management (QM) on projects is a management policy to maintain the standard of quality through the application of established procedures, standards, and tools throughout the project life cycle. The domain of project quality management includes various organizational processes that help in determining the quality policies, objectives, and responsibilities. Basically, there are three steps involved in a project quality management:

  • Quality Planning
  • Quality Assurance
  • Quality Control

Quality Planning

It is the initial step of the project quality management in which a clear definition of the goal and objective of the quality plan is obtained. The major questions to be answered while deciding the objective of the plan are: What is the product or deliverable supposed to accomplish? What does it look like? What is it supposed to do? An appropriate answer to these questions can help you to identify and define the goals for the quality management. Once the goals has been decided the discussion can be made for the tools and techniques used for achieving the set goals. An effective quality planning includes assessing the risks to success, setting high standards, documenting everything, and defining the methods and tests to achieve, control, predict and verify success. It should be made sure that an effective and efficient quality plan should be maintained in the project plan to track the quality metrics of the entire project.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance tests use a system of metrics in order to determine the effectiveness of the quality plan and whether the quality plan is moving ahead in an acceptable manner or not. Quality assurance uses both qualitative and quantitative metrics, to ensure the measurement of project quality with customer satisfaction effectively. These tests or quality audits helps in the prediction and verification of the achievement of goals and identify need for corrective actions if there is any. In addition to that, quality assurance tests will helps in mapping quality metrics to quality goals, and hence allows you to report on the status of quality at periodic project review meetings.ADS_TO_REPLACE_3

Quality Control

Quality control involves various operational tools and techniques to maintain the quality standards of the project. An effective quality control method includes identifying, analyzing, and correcting problems. Quality assurance is done before before the identification of a problem and once the problem has been identified the measures to quality control are taken in order to solve those problems.

Quality control is responsible for monitoring the project outputs according to the applicable standards of the project. In addition to that, it also determines the project risk factors, their mitigation, and measures to prevent and eliminate the unsatisfactory performances.ADS_TO_REPLACE_4
