| The release of DeLi (Desktop Light) Linux 0.7. DeLi Linux is a distribution made for old hardware. Machines from i386 to Pentium I with 8 to 32 MB RAM are considered as target systems. DeLi Linux uses lightweight software whereever it is possible. Nevertheless, it also provides a graphical desktop with an office package, web browser, e-mail client, PDF viewer and games. The most important changes: based on uClibc 0.9.28; kernel 2.4.33.3; a 'stripped-down' X.Org 7.1; a BSD-like ports system (borrowed from CRUX). |
About DeLi Linux 0.7
DeLi Linux stands for "Desktop Light" Linux. It is a Linux Distribution for old computers, from 486 to Pentium MMX 166 or so. It's focused on desktop usage. It includes email clients, graphical web browser, an office package with word processor and spreadsheet, and so on. A full install, including XOrg and development tools, needs not more than 350 MB of harddisk space.
Some Changes
1. Based on uClibc 0.9.28 (instead of glibc). Glibc is pure bloat.
2. Kernel 2.4.33.3. In earlier versions Kernel 2.2.x was used, but on high demand of users Kernel 2.4.x will be used from now on.
3. A "stripped-down" Xorg 7.1. This version of Xorg has only the basic features, which means no direct rendering or other "bloat" features.
4. A BSD-like ports system (borrowed from Crux). With this ports system users will be able to add easily new software to DeLi Linux using the port repositories from Crux.
