Parted Magic 3.0 has been released
This new release of Parted Magic has the most aggressive changelog of any release to date. Almost everything has been updated and redesigned while doing our best to maintain the same user interface. The most significant changes are the additions of HAL and dbus, new Xorg server, basic wireless detection, FireFTP, udpcast, Linux-2.6.26, and many other updated and new programs. Parted Magic also has a new GRUB version of the iso and the USB version is GRUB-ready. People have been asking for a "Save Session" function and we added it.
New Features Added a bunch of firmware and fixed udev to see it. Many new hard disks and wireless cards should be found now. This was also causing some computers to "hang" at boot time. Added a basic wireless detection system to pmagic_net. Updated to Firefox-3.0. Updates should work now too. Removed busybox loadkeys for the real loadkeys. Added all keymaps from the kbd package instead. I hope this fixes the broken keymaps. Updated to glibc-2.7. Updated to lftp-3.7.2. Updated to rsync-3.0.3. Removed "Live" option so we don't have to use squashfs-lzma drivers. I'm making a pmagic.7z archive and extracting it into/usr instead. This allows for free use of any vanilla kernel as long as you have your chip set and cdrom/usb drivers built into your kernel. You need a minimum of 256MB of RAM now. Updated to linux-2.6.26. Updated to pcmanfm-0.5.0. Added 'reboot' and 'local boot' to the LiveCD isolinux menu and 'reboot' to the LiveUSB syslinux menu. Updated to udev-124. Updated to module-init-tools-3.4. Updated to lshw-B.02.13 with updated USB and PCI ids. Updated to usbutils-0.73. Recompiled libusb-0.1.12. Removed dropbear. Added openssh-5.0p1. Added openssl-0.9.8g. Updated to pciutils-3.0.0. Fixed SATA CDROM detection. sftp works again. Updated to hdparm-8.9. Updated to smartmontools-5.38. I'm running the daemon by default now. You can disable it with 'nosmart' at the boot prompt. Added fusesmb, smbnetfs, curlftpfs, and sshfs-fuse. Added xchat-2.8.6. Patched GRUB to support 256byte inode in Ext3 filesystems. Updated to ntfs-3g-1.2712. Updated to busybox-1.11.1. Updated to e2fsprogs-1.41.0. setxkbmap actually works now. Removed the multiboot option because cdroms are being detected differently now and this is no longer needed. Added memtest. Removed Thunar and emelfm2. (only pcmanfm and mc remain) Replaced the xfwm4 with openbox. Added a network monitor plug-in to the panel. Removed cdrecord and dvd+rw-tools. Use cdrskin or xfburn instead. Added a sleep= option to the syslinux menus. This allows you to delay finding the CD/USB for how ever many seconds you need. udevtrigger is ran again after this delay. May stop slow SATA or USB devices from being missed. Updated to xfburn-0.3.1. Updated to gparted-0.3.8. Added clipboard-daemon. Added HAL and dbus. Recompiled a bunch of stuff to use them. xfdesktop is managing the desktop again until PCMan supports HAL plugging for desktop icons like CDROMs and USB. Updated to xorg-server-1.4.2. Added madwifi drivers. Added more firmware for Broadcom wireless controllers. / is fully writable now. Parted Magic now has a "save session" option in the panel and in the shutdown menu. It basically creates a pmodule of /root and saves it back to the Parted Magic LiveUSB. /root will automatically be restored on the next boot. ONLY USB VERSION. Removed Terminal and replaced it with ROXTerm-1.12.2. Added dc3dd-6.9.91. Added FireFTP extension to Firefox. This is a very nice graphical ftp program. The Parted Magic iso can now be directly booted with grub4dos. Added a grub4dos version of the LiveCD. The LiveUSB can use grub4dos or syslinux. Just run the same old basic commands for the mbr and the rest has been taken care of. Updated to isomaster-1.3.2. Updated to pv-1.1.4. Updated to syslinux-3.70. Updated to file-4.25.
