Sabayon Linux is a live DVD designed to transform a computer into a powerful Gentoo Linux system in less than 5 minutes. Gentoo Linux is a Linux distribution powered by a software install manager engine called "Portage". Besides functioning as a live DVD, Sabayon Linux can also be installed on a hard disk, acting effectively as an easy-to-use Gentoo installation disk. The live DVD includes a large range of desktop environments and open source software applications, such as KDE, GNOME, XFce, Fluxbox, KOffice, OpenOffice.org, FreeNX, amaroK, Kaffeine, etc.

The World's first and fastest Gentoo Linux powered distribution now changes its name. A change of style and unification for the RR4/RR64 Linux projects. Our mission is simple: making things that just work, using one of the most scalable Operating System.

Distribution features and changes since Loop2: This is a beta release. System improvements:
  • Boot time takes from 15 to 25 seconds less, thanks to Gentoo OpenRC and Baselayout-2 combined to our boot optimizations. On modern hardware, Sabayon now boots in less than 30 seconds.
  • Improved VirtualBox support (hardware autoconfiguration)
  • System directories have been cleaned up, resulting in a slight speed improvement
  • Fixed a lot of keyboard mapping issues

Sabayon 1.1 Professional Edition is powered by the 2.6.23.1 Linux kernel with the addition of rt2x00 tree patches for more wireless drivers support and latest acpi patches for support on Fujitsu laptops. Nopaste, git and cogito were added and KNetworkManager was updated. Some of the problems related to agp gart on x86 and those about sound were solved.
