openSUSE 11.1 RC 1 is now available. If all goes well, this will be the last testing release before the final 11.1 public release on December 18th. We all want openSUSE 11.1 to be the best release yet, and we need your help to get there. This release is ready for widespread testing, and we're encouraging everyone to download and work with the testing releases to find any critical bugs before release. Please run the release through your usual routine, and let us know about any bugs or other issues that you find. Remember that this is a release candidate, and is not suitable for use on production systems, however.
2008-11-14 00:00:00.0 openSUSE 11.1 Beta 5 has been released    View
openSUSE 11.1 beta 5 is now available for immediate download and testing. You may have noticed that we were scheduled to release RC 1 today. However, as Stephan Kulow mentioned on openSUSE-Factory list on Tuesday, we have several blocker bugs and 11 P1 bugs still present. While we're ready to do another release today, we decided that it wasn't ready to be called a release candidate. This shouldn't push back the final release, but it will mean that we will only plan to have one release candidate. Major changes include: more 11.1 branding is now in place; upgrade to PackageKit 0.3.9; KDE4 - NetworkManager and power management plasmoids now available; integration of Smolt finished; Linux kernel updated to 2.6.27.5; KDE 4.1.3....

2008-10-04 00:00:00.0 openSUSE 11.1 Beta 2 has been released    View

  • LiveCDs are being regenerated and released on Monday (Oct 6th).
  • Also, the x86_64 Beta1-Beta2 delta.iso is currently broken -- to be released on Monday as well.
2008-09-26 00:00:00.0 openSUSE 11.1 Beta 1 is available    View
The openSUSE Project is happy to announce the first beta release of openSUSE 11.1. openSUSE 11.1 includes quite a few improvements and new features over the 11.0 release, including new versions of KDE, GNOME, the Linux kernel, improved YaST modules, and much more! The ISOs for this release have been created using KIWI and RPMs created in the openSUSE Build Service. This caused some delay in the release of beta 1, but is part of the transition to using the openSUSE Build Service for all development of openSUSE.
2008-08-25 00:00:00.0 openSUSE 11.1 Alpha 2 has been released    View
openSUSE 11.1 Alpha 2 is available and ready for testing. This time it is actually installable and bootable, but you'll need to be quick and select the right boot option from the boot menu. Due to a bug "Failsafe" is the default boot option. Please make sure to always select real "openSUSE 10.0.42 - 2.6.26-14" option! On x86_64, please make sure to always disable the image-based installation from the summary screen, before the actual installation starts! There will be no live CDs with this alpha, but we are planning on doing an alpha 2 plus live CD next week.
2008-07-28 00:00:00.0 openSUSE 11.1 Alpha 1 has been released    View
openSUSE 11.1 Alpha1 is available -- but beware, this is an Alpha with very rough edges! While testing this on a Thinkpad R51, the system didn't boot after first stage installation. We are still looking into this issue (#411937). In addition to that, the default GNOME installation will complain about a missing package (providing gnome-session-branding). With the current bootloader issue, using the DVDs for installing is not recommended, until we have a workaround. Please try the LiveCDs instead!

he openSUSE team is proud to announce the second Beta release of openSUSE 11.0! New changes include countless bug fixes, as well as the import of the new openSUSE 11.0 artwork for login, splash screens and more. The live installation should work, but there are several known quirks, so be sure to check the most annoying bugs list before proceeding. Remember that this is a beta. It may not be safe to run for production systems, and should be used by users interested in testing the next release of openSUSE for bugs. Most annoying bugs: automatic configuration after boot into installed system behaves strangely; installation leaves traces of live system.
