This is the first Bluewhite64 Linux stable release after 5 months of development and maintenance! Bluewhite64 Linux 11.0 includes the Linux 2.6.17.13 kernel (2.6.18 kernel in the testing/ directory) with support for IDE, SATA, SCSI and RAID controllers. A

About Bluewhite64
Bluewhite64 is an unofficial port of the world famous Slackware Linux distribution built and optimized for the x86_64 architecture. When I first heard of bluewhite64 I was quite anxious to test it. With the release of pre-11.0-beta on July 3rd this seemed like the perfect time.

md5sums checked out and the install went well. The installer is the exact same installer found in Slackware as far as I can see. There may have been some differences in the available packages, but otherwise it contained the same steps presented in the familiar Slackware installer. It does stop during package install and ask for the 2nd cd, then precedes.

First boot went like clockwork as well. The only errors listed were insignificant or concerning extraneous aspects, such as chown /proc/usb/001/002 fails because it didn't exist. I say insignificant because the usb peripherals worked fine. An xorg configuration file is present, if a bit on the conservative side, and a "startx" brings up the KDE 3.5.3 desktop.

2008-10-11 00:00:00.0 Bluewhite64 Linux 12.1R1 "LiveDVD" has been released    View
This updates include new versions of the KDE, X.org Server, Pidgin, ALICE, Openssh & OpenSSl, Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird/SeaMonkey, Bind, Amarok and many more. New feature has been added, BW64installer, which is a GUI based installation program for installing Bluewhite64 Linux Live versions to your hard-drive. It uses a kdialog based GUI and makes the installation process simple and largely automated. To make partitioning and file-system creation easier it supports qtparted or gparted (but if neither are available it will use an automated set of wrappers around cfdisk and mkfs). The program was based on the old installer for OpenLab but was heavily rewritten (more than 80% of the code is new) to adapt it for Bluewhite64 Linux, bring it up to date and fix bugs.

Among the many program updates and distribution enhancements, you'll find better support for RAID, LVM, and cryptsetup; a network capable (FTP and HTTP, not only NFS) installer; two of the most advanced desktop environments available today: Xfce 4.4.2, a fast and lightweight but visually appealing and easy to use desktop environment, and KDE 3.5.9, the latest version of the award-winning K Desktop Environment. We have added to Bluewhite64 support for HAL (the hardware Abstraction Layer) which allows the system administrator to add users to the cdrom and plugdev groups. Then they will be able to use items such as USB flash sticks, USB cameras that appear like USB storage, portable hard drives, CD and DVD media, MP3 players, and more, all without requiring sudo, the mount or umount command. Just plug and play. Properly set up, Bluewhite64's desktop should be suitable for any level of Linux experience.

This is Bluewhite64 12.1-rc1, though there is still some more minor work to do. No ISO for this RC, perhaps the RC2 will have one, I'm waiting for the 2.6.25 Linux kernel to integrate it as a test26.s kernel. Please help test! And if we're missing anything major, please let me know at arny at bluewhite64 dot com or post to the forum. Thank You!
