Fleet monitoring

Fleet monitoring is done by the owner or manager of the company in order to know every breath their vehicles take. This is necessary so that the security of the fleet and the items and goods they are carrying can be maintained.

Fleet monitoring is the responsibility of the manager of the fleet in most of the cases, however it can also be done by the owner of the fleet. Monitoring a fleet helps in avoiding any type of illegal use of any of the vehicle. It also makes sure that the owner gets back the maximum of investment it has laid on the work.

Monitoring of fleet is done by the use of tracking technologies like GPS (Global Positioning System) and GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System). These technologies work on the radio signals that are emitted by the satellite and hence display the exact position of the fleet.

Recent years have seen the illegal use of the fleet vehicles to an extent and thus it becomes necessary to keep an eye on the fleet when it is send for any work. Everything should be recorded and data should be kept for future preference, bill issues and avoiding the lawsuits. Fleet monitoring involves information of speed of the fleet, route of the fleet, has there been any deviation from the original path, halts that fleet made and how long were they made. Besides the driver profiles must also be maintained. All these informations must be with the manager at all times whenever a fleet goes for a work.

The tracking technology used for monitoring the vehicles are of two types:

Active Device:  This data collect information and display them in the system in real time. They also store the same information. The manager can see the real time update of the data related to fleet even when he is sitting in a far of place. These devices are most effective when it comes to monitoring of the fleet. They are also the most widely used tracking devices.

Passive Device:  These devices collect information and store data in the system, though all the information collected can only be seen once it has been attached to the system that is when the fleet is back from the work. They do not give real time information.

Fleet monitoring is being used worldwide by almost all the fleet managers and owners to give security and growth to their business.
