It is the most tradition system of medicines that originated in India more than 5000 years ago. The word Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit words, ayus means life and veda means science.

A question always lingers in the mind of everyone as to why should one choose Ayurveda. First and foremost, unlike doctor prescribed medicines and drugs, Ayurvedic medicines not only help in curing the disease, but they also have a significant impact on the immunity of an individual and prevent that disease from affecting the patient again. So unlike the drugs, these ayurvedic herbs can be a part of our everyday life, even when we are not feeling sick. You can consume Ayurvedic herbs daily in order to prevent any health disorders. The chances of falling ill are greatly reduced if one adopts for an Ayurvedic lifestyle.

The Ayurveda approach to healthy life is determined by the body type and the mind body balance. The medicines of Ayurveda are made from the mixture of the natural spices and herbs extracted from plants. The medicinal properties of those plants go a long way in curing the disease and strengthening the immunity.

Ayurveda states that for keeping oneself away from diseases, maintaining the balance between three doshas matters to a great extent. These doshas are, vitta dosha, kapha dosha and pitta dosha. These doshas are responsible for proper coordination of all the physiological and psychological functions of the body. Any aggravation of these doshas triggers imbalance in the body functions, which can cause number of health disorders.

As stated earlier, Ayurveda is not all about medicines and herbs, but it realizes the importance of healthy diet for healthy living. Tips for Healthy Living in Ayurveda are centred on what we should eat and what we should not. It has its own food chart for people of different age, sex and health history. For instance, panchkarma is an ayurvedic method, which requires a person to totally banish the non-vegetarian food items like fish and meat from his diet. A person undergoing through an Ayurvedic treatment must totally avoid consumption of alcohol or should quit smoking.

Our daily diet should consist of nutritional food items. Fats and carbohydrates should be in a controlled amount while food should be high on proteins. One should avoid junk foods. Diet timings are important. Erratic timings have only negative effect on the health.
